Kawasaki Heavy Industries announced yesterday the Approval in Principle from DNV GL for its LNG floating power plant equipped with its own gas turbine.
The plant concept has LNG fuel tanks, LNG regasification unit, power generation equipment and switchyard all outfitted on the hull. It can be towed and then moored at the installation site where it generates power on the hull that is then supplied to the onshore power grid.
Kawasaki Heavy Industries believes demand for this type of power plant will be strong in Southeast Asia specifically for islands or in locations where it is difficult to secure stable power sources.
